Influences

I have a lot of them that have helped shape the way I want to write this blog.

Penelope Trunk

Seriously. I was incredibly bored with work and wanting to make a change (and deeply conflicted about making said change, but that’s another blog). I Googled and Googled and Googled (and love that Google has become a verb) “How to leave your job”, “How to give notice”, “How much notice to give”, “How to survive your notice period”, and every other variation I could think of all day at work.

Somehow I landed on her blog and was immediately sucked in. I read all the posts. I devoured them.

Something about the way she wrote unabashedly about her life mixing in career advice, parenting advice, sex advice, don’t do like I did advice struck a chord with me that I loved.

I started toying with the idea of writing my own blog. What would I write about? What do I know? What am I good at? What could I actually write about and post? Well, Penelope helped with a very handy “The easiest instructions for how to start a blog”.  What more could I ask for?

I still didn’t get started. Well, kinda...I started Tales from Tails about the dog rescue work I do. I still want to do that, but it was hardly a blog for some of the ides that run through my head. Yes, i love dogs, and yes, I love the rescue work I am fortunate enough to be a part of, but do I want to write about that all the time? No. So back to the drawing board.

I forgot about wanting to start my own blog for a while. Just let that idea sit in the back of my brain for a while and I went to reading more blogs.

I explored the Internet, clicked on links, Googled thinks and followed links out from there, clicked on commenter's links if I liked what they said.

Effing Dykes

Then I ended up at Effing Dykes. I love the way Krista Burton writes. I loved all the pictures and short blurbs of text. She is incredibly funny and made me laugh out loud.

I threw myself into that blog and started reading from the top all the way back. (In case you hadn’t noticed I’m a voracious reader and when I find something I like I can’t get enough.)

I got back to thinking about my own blog (the one still in my head). I wanted to write something that was entertaining to read (pictures!) and let me explore whatever I was interested in (a bit of everything).

So here we are. It might be just for me. Just for the therapy of writing whatever I want. It might be for you. In fact I hope it is. (In my secretest of secret thoughts I would love to have followers and commenters to interact with.)

But ultimately this blog is about A Little Bit of Everything.

And, if you haven’t checked out these two ladies and their awesome blogs...do so right now.
